In the Monastery of Kom today live abbot Hrizostom, father Simeon and other brothers.
Abbot hrizostom (Nesic) was born on 22 November, 1971 year in town Cuprija. After finishing grammar school and Polytechnic school in his home town, in search for spiritual life which could fill his soul, on 21 July, 1994 he had come to the Monastery of Visoki Decani. From the Monastery of Visoki Decani he moved to the Monastery of Crna Rijeka where on the day of St. Archangel Michael, 21 of November 1996, he took vows as a monk. In 1997 year together with father David (Miseljic) he moved from Crna Rijeka to Rijeka Crnojevica where Novak, present hieromonk Nikolaj, Mladen, present hieromonk Sofronije – fellowman from the monastery of Zagradje, hieromonk Maksim – Moldavian from the Holy Mountain of Athos, joined them and they made short lived brotherhood with father Serafim (Baradel) as spiritual father at the head. As soon as 1998 year, at the will of God and with blessing of Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral, His Eminence Amfilohije Radovic, as previously mentioned, father Hrizostom came to the Monastery of Kom where in 1999 year he was left alone.
Since 1 of August 2002 monk Hrizostom has been acting the duty of father-superior of the Monastery of Kom. On 31 of August 2003 he was ordained hierodeacon, and for Christmas 2004 year he was ordained hieromonk.
In his search for God and the spiritual community in which he could fulfill this longing, in the Great fast in 2004 year Vanja, present father Simeon (Djordjevic) came to the Monastery of Kom. Father Simeon was born on 8 of September 1971 in town Jagodina where he graduated school for auto mechanic. Nowadays he does icon-painting, and he is, we can freely say, the most important chanter in the church of Kom. He took vows as a monk in the year of 2005 at the day of St. Simeon the New Theologian whose name he got.
Shortly before the end of the reconstruction of the Monastery of Kom, at the day of sanctification of the tower – bell on 2 October 2005 year father Hrizostom was ordained by the Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral, His Eminence Amfilohije Radovic to abbot of this monastery.
In the Monastery of Kom Holy Liturgy is holding every day, except for days in Great fast when rules of the Fathers of the Church impose not to.
After monastery bell chimed for waking up and after finishing blessed rules in the cell, the day in the Monastery of Kom begins with brotherhood joining together and holding the divine service in the church of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God at 6 o ‘ clock in the morning. By Typicon of the Monastery of Kom, God is first worshiped with the early morning service with one katizma and one canon, which are followed by the first hour, and then by the Holy Liturgy. From 8am to 10am is time for rest, and after that is lunch. Various obedience is being fulfilled from 10:30am to 3:30pm, when, after short break of half an hour, begins the evening service at 4pm. After this short service is diner at 4:30 and then short “rest” – either in the cell or in friendly atmosphere in the pleasant shade of the porch. At 7pm in the church of Kom is hold moleben canon to the Most Holy Mother of God, after which all residents withdraw to their cells to be alone with God.
On Sundays and Feasts, vigil is served and it begins at 9pm, and the Holy Liturgy on these days begins at a time which depends on the pious people who want to take part in it on this holy island and their arriving to the shrine. When the Holy Liturgy is served in the continuation of the vigil, the whole divine service lasts until 2am, and after the morning Liturgy there is always a table of love, where God is worshipped through friendly and spiritual conversations.
The Monastery of Kom can be considered, with its geographical and physical characteristics, in the full sense of that word, the desert. The life in it and tight dependence on God and the nature in every moment impose ascetic conditions. Abbot Hrizostom and his brotherhood live very modestly, but under the protection of the Most Holy Mother of God to Whom this monastery is dedicated, and in steady love and obedience and full freedom as a result of such love and obedience. Beside joint worshiping God, cell rules, ordinary obedience in taking care of maintaining the monastery and the life in it, they put a lot off effort in the reconstruction of these three shrines. With their prayer and the whole life – always in front of eyes of God, through unity with God searching souls of pious people who visit this monastery, they regenerate their souls constantly aspiring to God and preparing for Eternity.
